Wild Anam ~ Caoimhe Keohane
Hullo, I’m Caoimhe Keohane, founder of Wild Anam.
The word anam has roots in Old Gaelic, emerging in texts as early as the 7th and 8th centuries. It originates from the Proto-Celtic anaman, which itself stems from even older Proto-Indo-European roots meaning “breath” or “soul.”
Through Wild Anam, I offer a range of experiences: yoga classes, retreats, folklore of plants and trees, storywalks, fireside gatherings, seasonal rituals aligned with the Gaelic wheel, forest bathing, and nature meditations.
These offerings invite us back to our wild roots, to our relationship with the earth, and to the indigenous stories that have arose and flowed from the waters and the clay.
Growing up along the western shores of Ireland, I was shaped by wild landscapes, ancient stories, stones, artwork and the rhythms of the seasons. These rhythms, art and stories continue to inspire my offerings.
After seven years in Australia studying yoga and working in environmental advocacy, I was called to Scotland. On arrival, I felt a strong connection to the land, a remembering. A memory of the intricate knotwork between Ireland and the Highlands, a shared Gaelic heritage, a language and spirit that flow between them like a river.
Now, with my partner Tom ~ a teacher of bushcraft and survival skills ~ we care for a small patch of woodland near Loch Ness. Here, beneath birch trees and by fire, we open space for others to listen to the earth and remember the wilder ways of being.
I guide others in mindful movement and yoga, practices that ground us in the breath and rhythm of life. For over a decade, I have practiced and have been teaching since 2018. I run regular classes and retreats across the Highlands. Weaving together mindfulness, mythology and movement.
